Review: Introducing New 2025 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck

The GMC Sierra 1500 is essentially an alternative name for the Chevrolet Silverado. Underneath the chrome and paint, the two full-size pickups have comparable mechanical prowess, despite their differing exterior designs.

The Sierra 1500 is available with a single cab, double cab, or crew cab with four doors, similar to the Chevrolet 1500. The length of the bed varies between 5.8 and 8.2 feet. A turbocharged four-cylinder, a Duramax diesel, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a 6.2-liter V-8 are all available as powertrains. The Sierra 1500 is ranked highly on two significant listings.

It is one of the most popular vehicles in the United States, and its maximum conventional towing capacity of 13,200 pounds makes it one of the strongest pickups in the segment. Even though the Sierra has a larger interface and more leather than ever before in its cockpit, it cannot match the Ram 1500's interior opulence.

Introducing New Design

The 2025 GMC Sierra is anticipated to usher in the subsequent iteration of full-size pickup trucks. Notably, the powertrains of the next-generation of vehicles will be updated.

During a recent GM Investor Event, General Motors President Mark Reuss spoke about the automaker's efforts to improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the forthcoming next-generation pickups.

Reuss stated that new powertrains with enhanced efficiency and performance would be included. The next engine portfolio update for our next-generation full-size vehicles will result in a greater than 10 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to current offerings.

In addition to updated powertrain options, the 2025 GMC Sierra will feature entirely new designs for the exterior and interior, and will travel on an entirely new platform.

The next-generation GMC Sierra will not use the same platform as the GMC Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup, which utilize GM's Ultium battery and drive technologies.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The Sierra is available with four distinct engines, two distinct transmissions, and rear- or four-wheel drive. The default configuration is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

It features an eight-speed automatic transmission. There are two V-8 engine options available: a 355-hp 5.3-liter and a 420-hp 6.2-liter. 460 pound-feet of torque are generated by a diesel six-cylinder engine.

All three engines are coupled to a 10-speed transmission. On our test track, a fully-loaded Denali Ultimate with a 6.2-liter V-8 accelerated to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. Additionally, the Sierra 1500 is available with adjustable dampers and 22-inch rims.

While the Sierra lacks the off-road prowess of the high-flying Ford F-150 Raptor, it does offer two dedicated off-road models. The robust AT4 model features a 2.0-inch suspension lift and other trail-worthy accessories.

The AT4X shares several features with the Silverado ZR2, including sophisticated spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and 18-inch black tires with aggressive tread patterns. The AT4X AEV package includes even more serious off-road accessories, such as a steel front bumper with a winch, 18-inch AEV rims, and steel rock sliders.

The Sierra has a rougher ride than the Ram 1500, but it still handles quite well due to its responsive steering and limited body roll.
